How Wright Training Elevated my Senior Season

I have been racing for the Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League (IICL), which is part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), for 7 years. I started racing in sixth grade and just finished my last season as a senior. I began doing pre-season training in the spring with Wright Training in 9th grade. Last year I continued my training partially through the summer, but stopped before my NICA race season. This year I was able to continue strength training all the way through my race season. At first I was apprehensive that strength training would subtract more from my racing and on the bike training. Working with Crystal and other Wright training coaches showed me how I could shift my strength training to simply maintain and continue to prevent injuries rather than making big gains in the gym. I have struggled with back pain during previous seasons, but with strength training I no longer felt pain during intense races because I was able to activate the whole chain of muscle in my legs. I felt I had better recovery after each race and that all my stabilizing muscles were working.

I am very proud of my last NICA season and felt I was able to push much more than last year, which I contribute to more summer hours on my bike and more and continued strength training. I’m glad I got the support of Crystal and everyone else in the gym to help me with a successful season. Looking forward I will amp up strength training to prepare for my nordic season this winter, as well as switch from biking to running and roller skiing.
