Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: I moved to Jackson 20 years ago and never expected to be as “hardcore” as the other people I met. I resort skied, hiked, and did limited mountain biking but through new friendships, I began to backcountry ski, mountain and road bike, and trail run at a whole new level but also tore my ACL and broke my leg along with some numerous ribs.
Q: What brought you to Wright Training?
A: My friend Claire Scolnick asked me if I wanted to join her semi-private classes at Wright Fitness. I was never much for group classes but thought I would check them out. I quickly learned that my years of being a gym rat and using elliptical and running machines and the weight machines were not getting me where I needed to be to take my outdoor activities to the next level and feel strong while doing them. Crystal also knew right away I had past injuries and has worked with me to fix the compensations I had been relying on for years and would have continued to cause me injuries.
Q: How has training at Wright Training impacted other parts of your life?
A: Becoming overall stronger has allowed me to compete in a triathlon and a road bike race which was something I’ve never dreamed of doing but now I feel they’re more competitions in my future since I know I can compete at a level that I feel strong and confident at.
I’ve also made many new friends through the gym and love when I am able to get together and bike or hike with them.
Q: What would you say to others considering joining Wright Training?
A: Stop thinking you will “bulk up”! I hear this all the time from friends right after they say that they think they could also benefit from a weight/ cardio workout. It’s frustrating since they can look at me and see I am not bulky but have developed lean muscle and also see the results in me being faster and stronger.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share? Thoughts/comments/shoutouts?
A: I feel I’ve been fortunate to have been able to work out with the staff at Wright Fitness because I know they will alter a workout for me if I walk in with an injury that might hinder me from doing everything that day. It’s knowing that the staff is paying attention to each of us during a workout session and give us pointers to improve our form and make the workout as efficient as possible.
