Wright Training and Excel Physical Therapy have been partners for the last 2 years. We have been trying to bridge the gaps between physical therapy and returning to sport. You’ve likely seen some of the Excel staff working in the gym. We wanted to introduce the amazing staff to the Wright Training community so we caught up with Erin Downey, one of Physical Therapist that operates next door. Below are some questions we asked her about job and being part of the Wright Training and Excel partnership.
Enjoy!
Q: How long have you been practicing physical therapy?
A: 11 years…OMG!
Q: What made you decide on becoming a physical therapist?
A: I was a volleyball player growing up…hence I was always in to a PT for my chronic ankle sprains. I really enjoyed my time with the PT. I love working with people and helping people get back to what they love.
Q: What are your thoughts on Excel South and Wright Training teaming up to help keep Jacksonites healthy and injury free?
A: I LOVE it! I am able to communicate with the coaches at Wright Training for what our patients need/want. The majority of our clients don’t want to sit on the sidelines just because they are injured. This collaboration allows patients/clients to achieve return to function and sport more quickly and with better mechanics to prevent further injury.
Q: Do you have to have a favorite injury to treat during PT?
A: I absolutely love the “complex” patient! I love working with people that may have multiple injury sites that influence how their body reacts or compensates. I have a Pilates training background and multiple injuries of my own which I draw from.
Q: What would you say your specialty for PT?
A: With my recent training in Pilates and background of multiple injuries in my lower half, I love working with hip pain, low back pain, or knee injuries.
If you have more questions for Erin, you can find her next door doing her thing!
