Q: How long have you been coming to Wright Training? What was your main reason for beginning here at Wright Training?
A: Four years ago, I started working out with Crystal as I was recovering from an ACL knee surgery. I appreciated her attention to fundamental movements and balance, focusing on strengthening the whole body so I could be ready for any outdoor endeavor.
Q: What changes, both short and long term have you noticed since starting?
A: In the short term, I gained confidence to get back out and ski. I signed up for Ski Fit and Ski Camp and joined a community of active adventurers. Overall strength increased my confidence. What I noticed in the long term was how great it feels to be strong! The workouts isolate muscles to help keep me balanced and ready for any activity.
Q: You sustained a pretty awful injury during the previous ski season, what kind of limits were you faced with during the recovery?
A: Yeah…my body was broken and I had to focus on healing for the first few months after the injury. My activity was limited to walking, eating and sleeping. One comment I heard repeatedly from my doctors was how my fitness and strength was actually playing a major role in my recovery. My body was finding its way back to homeostasis. I had to wear a neck/back brace for 10 weeks so much of my neck and back muscles began to atrophy. Now that I can strength train again, I’m amazed at how my body is responding in positive ways. I trust Crystal to help me build strength again and I actually feel much better overall.
Q: After the recovery, have you noticed any existing issues? How are you resolving these issues?
A: Now that I’m cleared to work out again, I mostly notice all the positive aspects to moving my body again. My high-intensity cardio fitness is off, but Crystal is helping me slowly build it back; tracking my heart rate and monitoring my ability to recover. Good communication is key – I trust Crystal’s guidance and she depends on me to tell her how I’m feeling.
Q: Do you believe that training with us has prepared you better for such unexpected injuries?
A: Absolutely! Without my initial strength, I would have had a more difficult time moving and working through the discomfort. There is a big psychological component to recovering from an accident and just being back in the gym, seeing others and receiving the trusted guidance at Wright Training lifts my spirits!
Thank you Theresa for trusting the team with everything and keeping up all of your hard work!
