At Wright Training our goals are to provide the best possible care to our clients to get them back to their sport or activity as soon as possible. We work with other professionals in the field to get you through all the steps to be able to physically and mentally return back to your sport. Located in the Wright Training building we have Excel Physical Therapy and Studio J Pilates. The goal is for us to work together in preventing your injuries and getting you back to sport with good movement and strength.
Joe Sikkema, PT, DPT, MASM
Joe grew up north of the Border in the Toronto Canada area where he completed his undergraduate work in Kinesiology. He moved to the U.S. to complete a Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine/Exercise Physiology at California State University Fresno. He was then accepted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Loma Linda Medical University where he graduated with Honors in 2009. Joe played D1 volleyball for York University and Brock University in Canada. He was then recruited to play for Fresno State’s team during his Master’s Degree. Joe has also worked as a personal trainer for 12 years and has been privileged to work with people of all ages and all athletic backgrounds. As a physical therapist, Joe has worked predominantly in the outpatient orthopedic setting with a variety of patients and a large variety of conditions.
Joe’s PT tip: Early identification of abnormal, dysfunctional, compensatory movement strategies allows for optimal levels of performance and quality of life for all ages and all activities.
Jess McMillan – Owner of Studio J
Discover your best self with the help of Professional Athlete Jess McMillan, a talented Pilates instructor and World Champion at Studio J in Jackson, Wyoming. Jess loves the fact that she is able to teach strength-enhancing exercises that enable people to feel stronger, healthier, and happier.
As a professional athlete, Jess knows what it takes to be at the top of your game. She believes that Pilates is a great complementary approach to injury recovery and balanced health and wellness. She was certified by Body Arts in Science International in 2011.
Jess is a walking example of how Pilates can help balance out the body after having an injury. She was a part of the “Reach for Greatness” marketing campaign by BASI Pilates™. Because of her very outgoing personality, she has been showcased in Pilates Magazine and became: Freeskiing World Tour Champion, US Free Skiing Champion, Warren Miller Entertainment Cover Girl, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Ambassador.
Growing up in Whitefish, Montana Michelle developed a great fondness for the outdoors at a young age. She finds peace while expressing herself through outdoor activities; primarily rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, and gardening.
Michelle initially used Pilates as a kickstart to rehabilitation following a series of spinal injuries. After practicing for a short time she felt the amazing benefits in her core strength as well as stability and flexibility of the spine, which improved her performance and helped protect her body during outdoor pursuits. She truly believes in the work of Pilates and its use to rehabilitate and strengthen all bodies and is excited to share her knowledge with others.
Erin Downey, PT, DPT, CCRT
After 5 years, she moved to the outpatient setting where she found a new love of orthopedics helping patients after surgeries, injuries and returning to the sports they enjoy.
Since arriving in Jackson, Erin has enjoyed the outdoor mountain lifestyle including downhill skiing, nordic skiing, trail running and mountain biking. She enjoys the challenge of high altitude organic gardening, raising chickens, spending time with her dogs and training for triathlons.
